People can buy them and treat them like human children. But once they get big they may bite. They don’t want to be dressed up and told what to do all the time. Then their “parents” don’t want them, and send them to zoos or laboratories. Zoos are mostly much better than they used to be, but there are still many chimps in small concrete and metal cages with no trees to climb and nothing to play with. The best zoos keep their chimpanzees in groups and provide them with all kinds of interesting things to do—different things every day so they don’t get bored.
