Blotting paper A type of bibulous unsized paper used to absorb superXuous ink on freshly written documents, blotting paper has been in use since at least the Wfteenth century. It was an alternative to early methods of absorbing ink such as sand or pounce shaken from pounce pots, which gradually became obsolete.
